Alastair Fraser
Alastair Fraser has been involved with No Man's Land and its predecessors since 1997. He is the project historian and produces background briefings for forthcoming excavations. He has also been involved in the identification of human remains recovered by the team. He is particularly interested in the Somme battlefields and is working on a broader history of the Auchonvillers sector from both sides. He has written and lectured extensively on No Man's Land projects.
He is a rare book specialist by profession and works for Durham University
Library. He has a degree in history from Newcastle University. He has worked
for the Public Record Office and the British Library and has recently run a
major retrospective cataloguing project for the Literary and Philosophical Society
of Newcastle upon Tyne. Alastair has also carried out library consultancy work
for the North East Museums, Archives and Libraries Council (NEMLAC) and is on
the library committee of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle upon Tyne.
